The semi-staged original musical “The Happy Prince and The Other Wise Man” weaves the story of Oscar Wilde’s “The Happy Prince” and Henry Van Dyke’s “The Other Wise Man” together, with the respective protagonists, the Happy Prince and the Magus Artaban, echoing each other’s selfless sacrifices in their compassionate acts towards the needy.

“The Happy Prince” tells about the statue of the Happy Prince who, with the help of a little Swallow, gave away his ruby on his sword hilt, his sapphire eyes as well as the gold leaves that covered his body to help the Seamstress and her sick child, the starving Playwright, the scared little Match Girl and the poor and needy in the city, and ended up sacrificing themselves.

We all know about the Three Kings who paid respect to the Holy Child in Bethlehem, presenting Him with gold, incense and myrrh.  However, there’s a fourth Magus Artaban in “The Other Wise Man” who was late in catching up with his three friends and thereafter spent his entire life looking for the Messiah to present his own gifts to Him.  During the course, Artaban had to part with his gifts of sapphire, ruby and pearl to save a Dying Man, a baby and a Slave Girl, and died without being able to meet the Messiah face to face.
